WORK IN THE PROJECT:
The programs which help the children for their growth and development are carefully planned and carried out in the Home. We prepared a balanced menu chart along with the children according to their taste. As per the menu the leaders issue things for cooking. Also we encouraged donors to sponsor feasts to our children. During the year more than 30 feasts were arranged through donors. We were monitoring our children’s health by maintaining height and weight register and health register. We arranged medical checkup program on 18.07.12 by Kothanalloor Primary Health Centre Doctors. A German dentist along with his team visited our Home on 26.10.12 and screened all the children’s tooth. As per his advice we took 9 children for further treatment to CSI Kanyakumari Medical Mission Hospital, Neyyoor. During the year we arranged 3 parents meeting and discussed about Health & hygiene, visit of parents, avoiding drop outs, tree plantation etc. We arranged a medical camp to our community people on 13.11.12 by five specialist doctors. There were 158 people attended and were benefitted. Also our children distributed pamphlets about Dengue fever and Diabetics. We conducted one Christian retreat in our Home on 20.08.12 by a ministry called Grace Evangelical Team. As per their wish after completing school studies we admitted 3 children to study diploma in technical course. On 25.01.13 we took our children to visit a Diary farm at Nagercoil, a Gloves Factory at Konam, a Water Tank Factory at Eratchakulam and a Spinning Mill at Aralvaimozhi. Also to a mount called Punither Devasashayam Mount at Aralvaimozhi and Kanyakumari sea shore. At Kanyakumari, children enjoyed by seeing the sun set. As per our encouragement four children joined in Holy Communion on 28.03.13 after attending three months class.
Case Study: The child J. Subinlongton – 20655/86, native of Eathavilai was admitted in the Home when he was studying 4th standard in the year 1990. He has parents and one younger brother. His father was a drunkard and did not care about the family. Due to his drunkenness his health was also very much affected. His mother was earning very little by doing embroidery works. She was caring the children by her meager income. In that poor situation the child was admitted in our Home. He was average in his studies. By our encouragement and his hard work he passed 10th standard. As per his wish we admitted him in Nazareth Art Industrial School to study three years Fitting and Black Smithy Course. By staying in St. John’s Home he successfully completed the course. After that he worked in some companies for few years in Tamil Nadu. By his hard effort he got chance to work in a company at Saudi Arabia in the year 2008 with good salary. He presented Rs. 2000/- to our Home from his first month salary. His father expired four years back. He got married two years back and God blessed him by giving a girl child. On 17.11.12 he celebrated his child’s 1st birthday in our Home by providing Chicken Biriyani to our children. He remembered his early life and He extended his heartfelt thanks to his foster parents concern.
Our Tamil Nadu Government takes very much interest in implementing Juvenile justice in boarding Homes. So, during the year also the government officials from different departments made frequent visits. They are very particular in not to give small cleaning works to our children. Nowadays none of them come forward to work in the Home as workers because of very poor salary. So finding new workers is a very big issue to us.
